One of our own here had a very unpleasant experience buying engines from Gold Coast Power that were said to have 1300 hours on them. He asked for an engine oil analysis prior to buying them, but the response was that Gold Coast had other buyers lined up and didn't have the time to deal with tests. Fearing he would lose the deal, our guy went ahead. They were Cummins 6BT's and were in high demand.
When the engines arrived the serial numbers were altered so the service history couldn't be checked. After they wouldn't run a Cummins technician who looked at the engines estimated their actual number of hours at somewhere north of 10,000 hours.
When the story broke on the internet, it came to light that four other engines from Gold Coast Power had gotten stuck in customs because of serial number 'irregularities.' Those reportedly 'low hour' engines turned up at the buyers and were also found to be junk.
Caveat Emptor...buyer beware.
