Matt...

I don't have any comment to make about using a polyethylene tank with traditional gas.. but I think anyone considering gas tank replacement where they are doing so to deal with future gas/ethanol mixtures should at least consider the fact that I recently heard from the editor of BoatUS "Seaworthy" magazine that poly tank manufacturer's have not yet come up with a formulation that meets either USCG or ABYC (sorry, I can't remember which) standards for flame retardant properties. Apparently the poly manufacturers are still not warranteeing the present formulations for gas/ethanol blends.

Your tank fabricator should be sure his tank can meet the applicable standards for your intended fuel.

I keep coming back to the thought that with all the frenzy to replace gas tanks these days.. if the new tanks are not fully acceptable to the Coast Guard or other standards maintaining agencies, and one springs a leak and there is a serious accident.. the applicable insurance carrier will most likely reject the resulting claim.
