As the others said, absolutely the shoot thru the hull.

I installed the c80 with ff 2 years ago and they didn't have the self leveling shoot-thru the hull transducer so I installed the traditional thru hull with fairing block. Well the new 600kw Amir was bigger than the unit i replaced and required an additional hole at the front of the fairing block. Now the boat pulls to port just a little, but enough to notice. I also loose the bottom at about 18kts. which isn't a poblem for fishing, but running in the Chesapeake, it can get real shoal real quick.

So, if you go with the shoot thru the hull and don't like it simply buy the traditional with fairing block and install it. If your not sure when you install, just leave the old transducer mounted(if you have one) and cover the hole after you're sure the shoot-thru the hull will do the job.

Just my $.02 hope it helps.
