Legal recourse to a bad survey

At the time my B28 was surveyed I repeatedly asked the surveyor, the broker and the Cummins mechanic about the spots of corrosion I saw on the engine. I also asked a reputable local mechanic last summer. All told me, to varying degrees, "its no big deal, grind it down a little and hit it w/ cummins paint".
My B28 received a clean bill of health, that is most everything was described as "serviceable".
After spending some time below decks and taking care of necessary repairs it is becoming clear to me that at some point this boat probably took on a significant amount of water.
The evidence:
A distinct water line 2" up the wood trim in the cabin.
Rusty rudder bearings.
The mechanical stuff and grating low on the frig is rusty.
Racors so foul externally I decided to replace them.
Rusty spots on the engine and transmission.
Rusty motor mounts.
Badly corroded through bolts below decks.Frankly it pisses me off that the surveyor didn't catch or chose to ignore what is becoming fairly obvious to me. The broker was an experienced guy too. I wonder what, if anything, I should do.
I guess I'd have to get another surveyor to confirm my suspicion. Then hire a lawyer in VA where the survey and transaction took place. Then prove damages. I'd probably be letting myself in for a lot of drama and stress for a few thousand dollars net at the end of it all. On the other hand the dollar value to repair everything to more "serviceable" condition might be significant.
What do you think?
