Dave - yeah, just squirt some Dawn in a bucket of hot water and let them soak a while, then jiggle them up and down gently. Might not hurt to repeat with clean water and more Dawn. Then rinse them good with clean water (be gentle, the filter media is actually a gauze like material) and hang them up to air dry. Don't use compressed air to speed the process since it will blow holes in the filter media. After they are good and dry, spray them with the red dyed oil. The dye is so you can see if you have covered evenly. I agree the K&N cleaner is no good, but their spray oil is fine.
