Guys,
I agree with you in all parts. My information came directly from the division of the USCG that writes these standards. I called and called until I talked to engineers that review these standards. This was the answer they gave. They also said that if it were their boat, they would use Aluminum. It seems that it is getting to be almost a personal choice. I promised not to publish the engineers names, but I still have them if someone wants me to provide them by e-mail.

USCG boats can use stainless because they are not for hire.
