Navman (owned by Brunswich ie "NORTHSTAR") has just come out with the 8120 a 12" machine which surpasses raymarine's product for daylight viewing. It accepts the C-Map Max charts and you can loop units together.
It currently comes available in chartplotter and sounder configurations (the sounder does not require a black box which saves you about 500 compared to the others.) It is a WAAS unit and interfaces with smartcraft hook ups for fuel and engine data (electronic Cummins will hook right in) and has a video input to watch whatever on the screen.
I plan on putting 2 of these screens in and currently have one to install. I am waiting for the radar feature to become available before throwing out the Raymarine 4kw and purchasing the next unit. (this should be by July).
At first look this is a nice piece. Be on the lookout for this unit to come onto the seen renamed and marketed as the Northstar Explorer series.
Best of all its less $$$$$ than Ray or Furuno with better viewing. Time will tell if its worth it but again at first pass its nice and as a test platform its all good.KR
