It's all a matter of opinion and budget but....
I purchased the color Furuno Navnet system. I put the GPS / Plotter on the lower helm, Radar on the upper and the black box sounder behind the lower helm where it is out of the way. With the Navnet, I can use plotter or radar functions no matter what station I am using. Go for the 1KW shoot thru the hull transducer. You will also need a flux-gate compass if you want to have radar / chart overlays
The ICOM 502 or 602 is a great radio of choice for the FB. Get a cheapy model for the lower helm. Keep a little redundancy there. The ICOM radio's will NMEA interface with your Furuno for DCS functionality.
Garman makes one heck of a system as well so I am told. Better daylight viewability then my Furuno. Having said that, Boat Tests rate the sounder of the Furuno a little better.
