In Response To: Affected gas tanks (Dave R)

Dave...

From what I hear, the fuel tank resin formulations were changed by Hatteras and Bertram in "the mid 80's".. but as of today I haven't heard anything more specific than that.

From a recent discussion with the editor of "Seaworthy Magazine" (BoatUS's magazine for their insureds) I believe the boatbuilding or fiberglas industries still haven't taken a position that any of their resins are completely safe or acceptable for ethanol/gas at this time, possibly even new tanks made today.

I wish I could be more specific, but I get the impression that everyone who might be held liable for tank failures from ethanol/gas in the future is being very careful to not make any committments today.
