Do the entire job in polyester. Polyester resins, including polyester gelcoats are not going to adhere to epoxy. There's just no reason to use epoxy for this job, except in the fairing stage where you might want to use Awlfair which is a 2 part epoxy fairing compound by U.S. Paint.
