air intake

trying to figure out how to get around having the cowl vent and side air dorado boxes for air.have seen a few boats without either so are they getting there air supply from the side panels in the cockpit area?also is the foam insulation really necessary on the bulkhead under the engine boxes????and on the underside of the engine boxes???or just paint the bulkheads white ???
