If you don't want to install the auto shut down, go with the manual cable release and don't forget to shut down the engines.

The only problem I see with trying to pull off an inspection cover, which most 31's don't have, is that it puts you on top of the fire in a confined space.
To me without proper fire fighting gear, that is too dangerous.
