Paul,
I have spoke with two companies that do exactly what you are talking about and I have got a green light from both. First, like you said, you cut the top off and then proceed to clean the hell out of the tank with hot soapy water. Then you attack it with plenty of acetone and clean rags. Wash it out with soap and water again, then grind the inside down to virgin glass. Put one coat of cloth and Vinyl Ester resin on and when it gets tacky, put on two coats of Vinylester Gel Coat. Let it cure for a couple of days even putting the lid back on with some hot light bulbs and "post Cure
" the work. then, Put the lid back on with epoxy and fabric.It the tank isn't too far gone as far as crud and contaminates, it should work good. It jsut has to be cleaned very good and ground down to virgin.
That's what I am going to do with my 190 gallon tank in my B28 since the tank is just about an intregal part of the hull the way they put it in.
