My understanding is the same as Bruces. I have them on my gasser. Just replaced them last year with new ones. I have a light on the dash of the flybridge that stays lite until the system discharges. While not a necessity, I still think that they would be important on a diesel. A lot of diesel heavy equipment is burnt up because of hose ruptures or electrical fires. Of course we don't have large ships in narrow channels where I live!! Rawleigh
