By the time you realize there is an engine fire, its probably too late.
Lifting the engine box and adding instant air can create a hugh flare up in your face. Besides the toxic fumes created by burning fiberglass, rubber, wire insulation, etc could knock you out instantly leading to death.
In talking to many owners of boats of different sizes that had fires on board, 90% were diesel and none were able to save their boat. NONE.
Most were electrical fires in nature.
The fireboy auto shut down system is very easy to install.
BTW, the shut down is not for engine damage, but to prevent the supressant from being sucked in and out the exhaust , thus no fire protectant left to supress the fire.
Its also to prevent the fuel system from pumping fuel into the fire.
