Marshall,
I won't dispute your claim because I don't know under what circumstances your failures have occured, but I do know that the companies I have used to make the over 100 pairs of stainless risers I have used over the years saw no failures due to anything but a pinhole leak at a weld joint or failure due to electrolysis, No stress cracks were ever seen. One thing I have learned as Pat and I developed our own welding skills is the quality of welding even by certified welders who have years of experience mostly sucks.
Most of those failures were blamed on everything but the weld process when in fact the welder had severly contaminated welds due to poor gas shielding or not cleaning the material or not going to the extra steps of passivating wet exhaust systems to remove the iron that will lead to rust and failures.
Another is the failure to weld a tab to attach a bonding strap as one end is attached to an insulating hose and the other usually has a gasket between it and the mating surface of the turbo acting as an insulator also.
Depending on a few bolts that will rust or a clamp is a bad idea as a conductor.Monel is an excellent material but you also had trouble with the weld seam.
The best material in the world is only as good as the guy who is welding it and most welders have an over inflated opinion of their work.
