If you are going to use a d/a get a 6in or 8in machine with a medium pad. Keep the pad level all the time and you won't wobble out the gelcoat to badly. The 5in. machines with hard pads tend to fall to the side easy if you or more importantly your helper aren't use to them.
Anything after your primer should be blocked with a fairing board and wet sanded with a line sander.
The flag blue will show every nick and line from sanding down to about 320grit so your prep needs to be perfect on final coat. I did a 32 Holland (roll and tip) that color so this information is first hand I used 400w. If you prime with the grey 545 and have even color you may get away with only 2 coats rolling and tipping. If you plan to spray make double sure your primer coat is perfect.
Sun light will also effect your paint- the dark color heats up quickly and the surface temps can get to hot to paint if you wait to the sun get too high.
