Part of the reason the old Detroit engines are getting more expensive to repair is that commercial usage has different epa regs than pleasure.
The parts are being bought up by commercial guys to keep the engines running as they have limited choices and much more expense in repower engines.

For instance the Yanmar 6LP if sold to and used in a commercial application would result in hugh fines to everyone involved if the EPA got a hold of the info.
However the EPA does have limited enforcement and some are betting on that fact.
BTW, some of the EPA cops are now armed.
