Having been thru similar circumstances last October, if it doesn't fit in the overhead bin, you can't bring it on board as far as the airlines go. Check your rod cases to see if they fit.
If you get a flight crew that is pleasant, almost a rarity, they may let you put them in a closet but don't count on that.TSA does prohibit pool cues from carry on, fishing rods are not listed at all but some half wit may not be able to determine the difference as far as a usuable weapon goes.
If an item is not listed on the TSA list it is subect to the whim of the TSA employee and supervisor.As far as the reels go, they are not listed either, check with TSA regulations and if you can make a trip to the airport with the rods and reels and ask in person, do so.
The TSA rules are subject to interpretation by individual airports and what kind of day the TSA employees are having.
