Exhaust elbows

One of steel elbows in my exhaust system rusted through on the bottom side so I pulled out everything on both sides from the mixing elbows to the mufflers. Going back with new exhaust hoses and elbows. What material is best for the elbows? I hear that fiberglass ones crack if the clamps are tightened too much (is that true?) and I hate to go back with steel again. I can have some made in my shop out of aluminum or stainless pipe but would rather buy something ready made. Can aluminum be used? Some advise from the experienced would be greatly appreciated.
