The 4LH Yanmars are a great fit for the B28. I have the 170 hp version which are basically detuned 240's so the size and shape are exactly the same. There is enough room for me to stand between the engines and stand on either outboard side of the engines. There is about a foot of space between the front crank shaft pulley and the bulkhead. I guess what I'm saying is access for maintenance is excellent. As for performance, I definitely recommend the 240 hp version if speed is a factor. I cruise at 19 kts where Bill cruises in the upper 20's. Mine have been in the boat since 1993 with over 2000 hours and no (knock on wood) major issues so far. About 9 gph total at 19 kts. My choice for 6 cylinder diesel power would be the Cummins B and for 4 cylinder power, the Yanmar. If you plan to keep the boat, do it, you'll never regret it.
