Stainless Steel Fuel Tanks

Please tell me what is the problem with stainless. Is it the material or the person who welds it. Is the filler rod the problem? I know that NASA uses stainless on their rockets. Why is it not good enough for our Berts?
I have seen stainless fuel tanks on Coast Guard boats. What is the real story? It would seem like stainless is the best solution for our fuel tank problem. The lines and other parts that it touches is another issue to deal with. I am afraid to start my engines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
