Niether of you folks have spoken to the engineers, technicians, training personnel or have run one, seen the data on in-place IPS boats, yet you make assumptions about performance and maintainence without basis in fact. The seal issue was the first thing addressed in the technical manual. Check it out as it completely debunks that issue and, since I've actually seen the system in person and had it explained to me by the engineers who built it, I can tell you there is no issue there. Assumptions are worthless and before you write off a system about which it's clear you know little (not a value judgement, merely a fact), you'd both do well to actually do some research about that specific drive system and not extrapolate problems/challenges faced by one from one to another without real data on the IPS system you think is such crap. Resistance to new and innovative thinking is understandable, but without facts specific to the innovation you're afraid of, they mean nothing. I'll stick with the OEM's who want this and say you'll be seeing alot more of these out there as people begin to understand this specific drive system more clearly...
