Frank,
Medallion makes wire harnasses with the standard colors for gauges. They come with molded plugs to plug together either in Merc round or rectangular.

If you can't locate give me a buzz, 561-622-1736.

Standard color code is:
Red +
Black -
Orange +, it can also feed an amp meter on older systems.
Blue / oil pressure
Tan / water temp
Tan/ blue stripe / alarm circuit
Gray / tach
Brown/ alarm circuit or water temp on some older systems
Purple/ ignition on

On some bertrams and other boats the red from the engine is cut and does not feed the panel.
The panel is fed thru the breakers in the cabin direct from the batteries.
