Dan, I did as UV said when I replaced my rudder shelves last year. I took the old bering into Granger and the matched up with a new one. I used tef-gel and coated with CX once installed.
Just to give myself a little more piece of mind, I drilled a small detent into the shaft where the set screw goes. Then when I insalled the set screw I used some loc-tight to make sure it won't back out. The only thing I haven't done was to somehow mark the area to remind me (or someone else that I used loc-tight), cause that stuff won't let go unless heated.
