I took mine off in January. Mine seemed to be set up similar to your description. On the other side of the fiberglass there was a wood backing, plywood I assume. The bolts that went all the way through had lock nuts that were counter sunk into the wood. Taking it apart was not that difficult. I fear putting it back together may be a bit more challenging.
