Vince according to my Marine Radar guy JRC is a fine reliable radar. They previously marketed commercial radars for ships. So they know how to make a marine radar that will take the abuse and keep on working. Most intallations mount the open array on the hardtop or extension. Use a good backing plate. Starboard is good for this. Aluminum will work too but will eventualy rot.
The 6 KW is a wise choice. The real serious captains here use a 10 KW. And the first time you hit a thick fog bank you'll pat yourself on the back. Let alone how much of an improvement it will be for fishing (seeing birds beyond your eyes)a great tool and safety device on the boat. The radoms are a toy and will let you see weather and channel markers but at a real sacrafice of performance otherwise. 35 pounds is nothing for the bridge roof . Now way up on a full tower that's a different matter. For the money you can't go wrong. Dave K
