Keep one thing in mind, the more power you put out the stronger echo you will return. While 4kw is very good, a 6kw will see things that a 4kw will miss in super thick fog or at the edge of the actual range (say like 10 to 16 mile depending on the height of the mount). Just like a fish finder more power is always good. 500 watt sounders are good and 1kw are great but until you use a 2kw or better you really don't realize what you have been missing, radar is no different.
