In Response To: Re: Opinions on JRC 2344 6kw Radar Unit (jd)

JRC made all of the earlier units for Raytheon. The R-series Radars, the V-series depth recorders, etc. There was some sort of falling out between JRC and Raytheon causing an inability for guys like us to get parts for our units. JRC then went after the consumer market which then competed with Raytheon. As far as mounting the open array antenna. My 4kw open array is mounted on a radar arch on my B-31 Sportsfisherman. My previous radar was a Raytheon R-20 with a 4kw radome. The dome antenna was MUCH lighter than the open array. On the other hand I find the open array's images much sharper. If your hardtop is a strong one, I'd still have a good backplate because it's going to get a lot of stress on it in rough seas. You'll want the height for the advantage of longer distance imaging. Good luck. Walter
