I don't know what kind of seal it was, but I would put my PSS shaft Seal up against any stuffing box or other dripless seal. I don't thik it is possible to "melt" the flex tube on it. I think it is a very safe design. any stuffing box or seal can have the tube rupture, but you shouldn't be able to melt it. It sounds like a poor design or improper installation. Rawleigh
