Actually most of the low level people at Mastry have been very good over the years. They are not the ones that set policy and certainly not the only ones to do this.I know many manufacturers and distributors in other business ventures that will not under any circumstances sell to anyone except thru their dealer network.
They are not whores like most of those in the marine field who want to sell product no matter how they do it.
While it seems a good deal for consumers, I see more and more dealers not wanting to get involved or service product the consumer brought outside a dealer network.
In the long run it will only hurt the consumer and lead to bad blood between dealers and consumers.
An example is a guy called who bought engines from one of those back door distributors, installed them and wanted them certified for warrantee.
None of the dealers will do it.BTW, those distributors that sell out the back door set pricing for those sales. Since dealers can only buy thru those distributors, they have to sell at the back door price to compete which to me is price fixing albeit low, but still price fixing.
