In Response To: REPOWER / Cost ETC (DavidR)

David,

First some questions.
1) What kind of use? Commercial or pleasure?
2) What model 31 do you have?
3) How much does it weigh?
4) How many hours do put on it in a year average?
5) How fast do you want to go?
6) What kind of effeciency (GPH) are you shooting for?
7) Are you restricted to a tight budget?
8) What size exhaust do you have?
9) Where is your exhaust located ? Inboard or on the outside stringer area?
10) You'll have to increase the shaft size to 1 1/2" diameter for the additional torque.
11) Struts will have to be bored for the new shafts with new cutless bearings.
12) I would not recomend a used/ rebuilt unless you buy it from a Cummins or Yanmar Dealer period.
That's OK. Otherwise new only. Just too risky with the price of Diesel engines.
13) You can repower for as low as $30K to a more realistic number of $60K with everything new and done right. After answering the above questions you will able to obtain a more accurate figure.
