3208 CAT OEM B31

I owned a 1982 FBC with factory installed 3208NA Cats with 506 gears from 1984 through 1992, fantastic package. With the V-8 diesels, the engine boxes were 4" or 6" longer (can't recall which) than standard 454 gas engine boxes by tape measurement vs. a 1976 454 FBC to accomodate the V exhaust system and gear on the diesels. A question I'd like to throw out to the faithful: was this a custom change for this particular boat specified by the original buyer with these engines or was this standard for all OEM 3208 installations? A follow up question: boats of this era also had OEM 504 Cummins, are these engine boxes the same size as 454 boxes or slightly bigger too as referred to previously? Any post 1980's FBC owners may know this info. Thanks
