An estimate is a rough idea of what it should cost, a quote is a firm price for the work to be preformed. Be careful when given a rough estimate because it's almost like giving an open PO to the contractor. Most of the time it's impossible to give firm quotes because you really don't know what you’re getting into till you’re into it. I reminded the last boat owner that a little maintenance would have saved him mucho dollars as I was cuttng his rust crusted couplings off. Too many pseudo captains blame the marinas for outrageous bills because they try to cram two years of maintenance into their annual haul out.
