John Deere Diesel Engines

Any of you guys have experience or thoughts on John Deere engines for our 31's. I am no where near repowering my boat but........I am considering a repower sometime in the distant future. I have been around a single engine New England Lobster type boat that was powered with a John Deere Diesel. It was very quiet, smooth and the owner was extremely impressed with the fuel consumption. I believe that the John Deere engines are more popular in Maine that here on the Gulf Coast. Did a google search on Bertram 31......only 2 post appeared and not much to say about these engines.
Just wondering what you guys think.
