Gary,
$50 per part is A LOT!
Many of us on this board have had plenty of parts rechromed with good success and economy.
My work was done by American Electroplating in NJ (973 427-2300). The owner, Dave Mitchell, has told me that his replating cost is roughly one half of the new, replacement cost of the part in question.
