cummins repower

I'm pondering over the idea of repowering with 6 bta's. I have saddle tanks that run outboard of the shafts. I've noticed the xhaust is run there on other 31's. Is there any problems with running the xhaust where they are now? Would the gear interfere? Would it be hard to get to the shaft log? (packing) Thanks in advance. New to this diesel world. Russ
