Dug,
Just added a new top to CHIMERA in November, because the 31 is a little thin in the glass department around the top of the deck house and flybridge the decision was made to go with 2" legs and 6" flanges. Wherever a backing plate is used that is hidden it was a synthetic material approximately 12x12. The aft legs are backed with a matching 6" aluminum flange for looks.Check the glass under your flanges when I took the old half tower off I found that the front legs had punched through the glass in the middle and all you could see on the outside were a few gel coat cracks.
Good Luck
