John - I'd advise against stainless tubing for the hard top. The stuff is just too brittle for the beating the B31 takes. Go with aluminum. I've been around a lot of boats with half and full towers over the years, and everyone that had a stainless one hated it, cracks everywhere.
As a point of reference, the Pipewelders half tower on AJ cost the prior Steward 10K installed with a 3 sided enclosure and electronics box in 1991. Not ever a crack in any weld, altho the pipes under the canvas laced top over it have some corrosion spots when I assumed Stewardship in about 93. I stopped the spread of it with CX.
Now the whack she took in Katrina busted some diagonal pipes off the stb front, but that is being fixed by the yard.
