I used # 18 biaxial, all epoxy glassed to the hull. Some prefer to use a filler piece so the tubing doesn't get distorted when tightening hardware at the top but I felt it was not necessary.To provide friendliness to the hull no glass was used at the top of the supports just SS fastners. Since the hull will flex a small amount some latitude for this was provided by just affixing the top. Also if glass was used at the top it would have not stuck too well as an air pocket would be pretty big around the fastner. The deck is solid as a rock, really strong.I learned about all this here on this site. Many boat builders are doing it this way now. Dave K
