I have worked with Formica around my house and just this past fall my son and I redone his counter tops with formica. This stuff is easy to work. I will certainly use the "Rope Trick". I had concerns about paints reacting with the formica and either lifting or failing. Never painted or even considered painting formica. I did notice that some formica is smooth and shiney and other formica has a texture to the surface. My thoughts are that color is not important.....since its going to be painted and that it should be sanded before painting.
