I don't think anything beats good old marine grade plywood for performance versus price. I don't see any way around coating it with thinned epoxy followed by thicker coats and glass. Do all your tabbing with epoxy and cloth. Captain Patrick has posted some information on the building tips. PVC board is great stuff but it takes more time and patience to laminate the stuff for thickness needed and I don't think it holds screws as well as plywood. There is alot of information available here on this site.

Just my thoughts.
