I know of no way to optimize a muffler for less back pressure other than removing it and replacing it with a FB or Silicon rubber piece of exhaust. Any noise deadner will increase back pressure. It's better to work with physics here and release exhaust into the water mostly submerged for minimum noise amd minimum back pressure. It works but carefull attention must be paid to the ehaust elbow and and let gravity work for you. i.e. design it allowing never any water to come in to the exhaust. As far as room for fish boxes is concerned that's only obtainable with the exhaust run by the outboard stringers. See "Buddy Boy" post above , start to finish section . Or look at my last post about the fuel tank problems. You can see my outboard exhaust . This is the best way to do allowing for best utilization of space below the cockpit deck.
