Jeff,
The setup that you described is what I have in my '73 Sportfisherman, except Bruce and Patrick tweaked my wheels (four-blade) back from 20x24 to a 23.5 inch pitch to allow the engine to turn 3950 RPMs under full load rather than the 3800 called for by Yanmar. Even though the Yanmar specs say you can run continuously at 3600 RPMs, I typically cruise at 3200 RPMs and achieve 26-26.5 knots burning 16 GPH total. A more conservative 3000 RPMs gives me about 24-24.5 knots. At 3600 RPMs I cruise at 30-30.5 knots (full fuel, water, four guys and gear; no tower, only bimini top). Very smooth, relatively quiet, little or no smoke, no problems. Yes, I would do it again.
