I'll tell you what I did and you can make your choice. First foaming is OK provided you do not give water an oppertunity to collect anywhere. The bottom side must have adequete drainage otherwise it's curtains for the tank. I elected to use David Pascoe's method for simplicity and assurance reasons. I fabricated 1" wide PVC foam board strips 1/4 thick and sandwitched accordingly for proper spacing . They were affixed with 5200 to the sides (stringers) and to the front and rear supports made from marine plywood. The marine plywood was coated with a thinned coat of epoxy first (75%epoxy, 25% Denatured Alcohol)and set for two hours before the first coat of regular epoxy was applied. Then another two hours before the second coat of full strength epoxy was applied.The front and rear supports were secured to the stingers and hull with #18 biaxial with epoxy. An intentional small seperation was made between the supports and the hull for micro flexing of the hull. (refer to Patrick's building techniques on bulkheads) All epoxy resin was used.
Drainage holes were made in the supports so as not to trap water anywhere.I'll see if I have any closeup photos, I may not but will post if I do.
