engine sisters

is it better to use a single thickness wood mahogany(where valible) or is it ok to laminate 2 pieces together to get the thickness needed ,i need 1 1/2" thick .mahogany i asume is the best to use.....any help ??????what thickness have any of the faithful's started with ,going from gas to diesel.....
