Richard not sure which one you have, but I went through some old newsletters I have from when the old Bertram owners club existed. I found a couple of comments about old ocean racers they built. From what I can tell one was owned by someone up in Seattle, WA.back in 94. He was 70 at the time and was looking to sell or trade it. He said he had gotten it from Mexican Government who had impounded it. He said it was built in 1962 as an open racer. He repowered it with Chevy 454's that were turbocharged and blueprinted. He claimed it clocked out at 63mph. It also had a water ballast tank so they could shift the trim. They said it was the sistership to to several other Bertram racers. The article goes on to say it won the Cowes-Torquay race in 64 and in 66 she was driven by Powerboat Magazine publisher Bob Nordskog in the Long Beach to San Francisco race in which she came in second. She was also raced in the Catalina Challenge. Not sure if thats the one you have but it may give you an idea of what its capable of and its potential history. Tony Meola
