Tom, I sometimes use a #2 planer when kingfishing live bait. I'll have to say though, I don't much care for using them. A down rigger (I have two Penn electric ones) is light years better. With a planer you have it on the line with the fish, have to hand line the fish to gaff (the line after the planer), and have to fish with a pretty stout rod because they pull pretty hard.
