Dan,
The blade size of any of the original rudders is not important, only which style shafts...
The 28 style shaft is a straight 1 1/4" shaft from the blade up to a square land machined for the tiller arms. Above the square land, there's about 4" of turned to 1" for the flange bearing.
The 31 style shaft has 2" of 1 1/2" shaft at the blade, dropping back to 1 1/4" shaft the rest of the way up until the last 2" at the top, which is cut to a square land for the tiller arm.
Two original styles were configured for the 31 shaft. One was the rounded leading edge, looking somewhat like an inverted shark fin. The other was a rectangular blade that has a rather thick trailing edge & thinner leading edge.
The original 28 style shaft style has a tiny little rectangular blade. There were designed for use on the B25 & B28, but somewho manged to show up on a significant number of the B31s.
The blade size of my B31 rudders are all the same, regardless of which style shaft. So all I need to know is the shaft style...
Best regards,
Patrick
