battery switches

i know it's best to keep the battery cables as short as possible less amp-voltage drop between the battery and engine,but on my 31 (restore) the cables (+) run from the battery switch which it only has one on the port side,all the around the aft bulkhead to the batteies on the stb, side ,about a 9'run...wouldn't it be better to have a nother battery switch on the stb.side complety by it's self for the stb,engine,???lots shorter run on cable for shure......am i right or not ???
